Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Marvell Technology's data center revenues surged 46% year over year to a record $2.17 billion.
  • MRVL expects data center revenues to grow about 60% in fiscal 2027.
  • Custom silicon is set to accelerate, with fiscal 2028 revenues expected to more than double.

Marvell Technology (MRVL - Free Report) is increasingly becoming a data center-focused semiconductor company, with artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure driving demand across custom silicon, optical interconnects and switching. The data center end market accounted for 74% of Marvell Technology’s fiscal 2026 revenues, up from its historical positioning across a broader range of markets.

The momentum accelerated in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. Data center revenues reached a record $2.17 billion, which increased 46% year over year and 18% sequentially, and accounted for 79% of total company revenues. Growth was broad-based across optical interconnect, switching and custom products as hyperscalers continued expanding AI infrastructure. Networking and optical connectivity are becoming increasingly important as AI clusters require greater bandwidth.

MRVL reported strong demand for 800G optical DSPs, while its 1.6T products are ramping rapidly. Scale-out switching is expected to more than double in fiscal 2027, supported by broader adoption of its 51.2T switch products. The company is also pursuing scale-up opportunities as customers evaluate next-generation optical architectures, including near-packaged optics and co-packaged optics.

Custom silicon represents another significant growth avenue for Marvell Technology. MRVL expects its custom business to accelerate during the second half of fiscal 2027 and more than double year over year in fiscal 2028, driven by XPU and XPU-attach solutions. Its expanded hyperscaler agreement covers AI inference accelerators, storage controllers, network interface controllers, memory interface controllers and near-memory compute.

MRVL is also expanding its position in next-generation AI infrastructure through its relationship with NVIDIA, including NVLink Fusion, scale-up switching and silicon photonics. Recent product introductions, such as the 102.4 Tbps Teralynx T100 switch and expanded 1.6T optical DSP portfolio, further broaden its data center exposure. MRVL expects its data center revenues to grow approximately 60% in fiscal 2027.

How Competitors Fare Against MRVL

In the data center market, MRVL faces stiff competition from Broadcom (AVGO - Free Report) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD - Free Report) .

Broadcom is a leader in the domain of custom silicon solutions for data centers. Broadcom’s advanced 3.5D XDSiP packaging platform is critical to ensure the performance and efficiency of custom AI XPUs. Broadcom’s relationships with leading hyperscale and frontier AI customers give it direct insight into workload requirements and help shape differentiated accelerators. The company continues to work with six core XPU customers across multiyear programs.

Advanced Micro Devices is another established player in the custom silicon solutions and AI accelerator market. Advanced Micro Devices offers semi-custom SoCs and Instinct Accelerators to power data centers. AMD is broadening its data center AI opportunity from Instinct accelerators to the Helios rack-scale platform. In the second quarter of 2026, Data Center revenues rose 107% year over year to $6.7 billion, while Instinct sales more than doubled.
